The Wednesday Room
The Wednesday Room is designed to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for young people (15-30ish) to discuss especially sexual health and youth health matters. PAP smears for women of all ages may also be taken by the qualified nurse Jackie Eyles.
Appointments are available, but walk ins are welcome every Wednesday between 2 and 6 pm.
So, what happens when you come to be seen in the Wednesday Room?
First of all you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding your general health and questions you want to discuss. Then you will be seen by registered nurse Jackie Eyles, who will discuss the important issues and will give you advice on treatment, tests that may be necessary and follow up. She may then ask that you also see the doctor. If there is no need to see the doctor you are all done!
What about confidentiality?
All consultations are dealt with extremely confidential and are always non-judgmental. Whatever your (health) issue is, please discuss it with Jackie and she will find a way to assist you.
Do I have to come back for my results?
This will be discussed with you during the consultation.
How much does it cost?
All consultations in the Wednesday Room are bulkbilled, meaning no charge for medicare card holders, where non medicare card holders will be charged a nominal fee.
There is no charge for pathology tests, thanks to Capital Pathology being supportive of the Wednesday Room.
A bit more about the doctor, the nurse and the Wednesday Room
The Wednesday Room is now in its third year of operation and has been very successful. The Wednesday Room is a part of Jindabyne Medical Practice, but because we aim to keep it an affordable (free) service we are very happy that the Bowling Club as well as other community groups have been involved in fundraising for training, supplies and marketing. Both the ski resorts have invited Nurse Jackie to give a presentation at their staff inductions.
The original two founders, Dr Tanya Robertson and Nurse Jackie Eyles have been invited to present their concept in regional and national conferences.
Nurse Jackie Eyles has attended many courses on sexual and youth health and has gained a world of knowledge about the local area and will be able to help you find a solution for your problems.
Dr Vicki Mattiazzo moved to Jindabyne at the start of this year. She has extensive knowledge in youth and sexual health through her work in Darwin.
